Holiday Sampler

In the midst of dirt and construction, we had to try a bit harder to keep the house warm and cozy and "Christmasy." Costco had the bomb deal on gingerbread houses this year--pre-assembled! Right up our alley! Usually it's been Andy that's done the gingerbread with them, trying to get the walls to stay up and hold together, while dealing with very short attention spans from the kids. This year I bought the house totally constructed, and all they had to do was smear the frosting and eat/place the candies. Perhaps taking the easy route seems "bah-humbug" like, but then maybe you've never done gingerbread houses with 2 small children--the less to do the better the result!

Once again, the piano got lonely in the living room all by itself, so we gave it a Christmas tree friend...we're hoping to remedy the furniture situation this year. This was also the first year that I totally let go of my idea of the perfectly decorated Christmas tree, and let the girls hang every single ornament themselves...I placed the ribbon and bow, and then they did the rest. It was sort of liberating

With both girls in school, they learned a lot of the Christmas songs with their classes...we tried to gather around the piano a few times and sing them together...
